Meet the Founder of SJC.

My name is Kari and I am the founder of SJC. I have been working in Social Services for the majority of my life. I currently hold a Bachelors Degree in Social Work from the University of Victoria as well as a degree in Peace and Conflict Studies which has a focus on Human Rights, Activism and International/Interpersonal Conflict Resolution. Throughout my studies and 14 years of experience in Social Services, I quickly came to realize that

Human Rights are intrinsic, they are not negotiable and are fundamental for any just society. At the onset of 2020, I was astonished at how quickly our Human Rights were eroded, and with it came the subjugation and silencing of a new minority of people in society; those that chose to practice sovereignty over their bodies and lives. With it came the erosion of supports and services for those that chose to divert from mainstream narratives. In our current social climate, there is a lack of empathy, primarily in the mental health and medical community, for those that have chosen to adhere to our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. SJC was created to fill this gap.
